Il lavoro si inserisce all’interno del più generale dibattito sulla complessa trama di relazioni che unisce lingua e identità. In particolare, ci si concentrerà sul ruolo che la linguistica gioca e potrebbe giocare in funzione di mediazione fra politiche linguistiche (attuate o anche solo proposte) e le concrete pratiche discorsive messe in campo dai parlanti. In questa prospettiva, nella prima parte del contributo, si discuterà di come il concetto di identità sia stato variamente declinato dalle scienze linguistiche nel corso del XX e in questo primo scorcio di XXI secolo. The Sicilian language has always been a field of great interest not only because of its contact with other languages, but also because of ideological models and language policies. This paper examines some moments of its thousand-year history in which the intermingling of peoples, languages and cultures has been acted out in very different ways, both in terms of actual behaviour and in terms of perceptions and linguistic representations.
